My Apple sanity

I carry around two devices, an iphone and a blackberry, and people often ask which one is better. For a long time I used to say each one had its own benefits - the blackberry is easier to type on and send emails, whereas the iphone is great for viewing websites and video, and increasingly more and more for using apps. Yet, not until I started traveling extensively outside the USA and was forced to only rely on my blackberry (work coverage), did I begin to realize how much I fcking hate the blackberry - and how much better is the iphone.Trying to navigate foreign cities and use google maps is a horrendous experience on the blackberry. I blame getting lost this morning in Paris, a city I know relatively well, because I tried in vein to locate an address and get directions through a dark vacuous screen. On my iphone, not only is Google maps interactive and viewable, but apps in general on the iphone are simple and intuitive. A few times I tried searching or downloading an app on the blackberry, I felt like I was accessing some old tomb of archived widgets. Even Facebook on the blackberry somehow manages to feel antiquated. And how can I forget to mention the camera. I am always amazed the device actually works to take photos on the blackberry, whereas on my iphone I enjoy taking photos and often use multiple apps like instagram, and hipstamatic, pick, and cinegram for video.I guess this writing has developed into a rant against blackbery.  But perhaps its time I stop being so cheap..  and invest in an international plan to utilize my iphone when traveling so I can experience the world outside the US optimally. In fact, today after my extremely late arrival to the Paris office via getting lost, I had a chance to hear the ladder half of a presentation from Apple. The head of the Apple EMEA office was speaking to our team about their products. The guy mentioned that Apple does not separate its business units, that the same marketing/strategy/technology person who works on one Apple product also works on others - so there are no silos between the iphone, ipad, mac or appletv.. etc. This makes perfect sense - this is how there is seamless interaction between the devices. this is why the products work so well together. And this is why I really do like my iphone. It may be slow sometimes .. but as an owner of many other Apple products (mac, ipad and recently AppleTv) I'm gonna just say that I am an Apple fan. Today I realized this. Today as I type on my Airbook.. I fully grasp that Apple makes my life more sane. more maneagable. and just better.
