Augmented Reality for Brands
With the launch of Apple’s ARKit in September, soon followed by Google’s AR Core, mobile AR will be quickly reaching massive user penetration. A projected 600 million iOS devices will have iOS11/ARKit, with a combined total of 900 million including ARCore & Facebook Camera Effects by the end of 2018 (Digi-Capital).Although augmented reality has been around for many years, key advancements in technology have led to vastly improved user experiences. Compelling AR experiences are longer limited to headsets and activation no longer requires a target image or QR code. New smartphone cameras, powerful motion sensors, improved tracking, and higher quality resolution now enable much more accurate digital renderings in physical spaces. There are multiple use cases for mobile AR, particularly for product visualization. In the last two months, retailers from Ikea to Amazon, Target, Wayfair and Overstock have all launched ARKit apps. Other use cases can also be applied for enhanced learning and communications, guided workflow, more intuitive navigation, location-based entertainment, activity and storytelling and more personalized and customized engagement. The mobile AR opportunities for companies are vast and immediate, and we can start creating impact for clients across multiple industries now. Here is my presentation from Greenlight Insights VR Strategy conference about Mobile AR:
